Bald Cypress Success! A West Virginian tries something outside the box.

Bald cypress and other coniferous types are an interesting study with regards to tree tube usage. A customer from West Virginia took our advice and installed 60" Tree Pro Protectors on some his bald cypress. The results were incredible. some trees grew 6-7 ft in the first growing season. He sent this picture over to show how great they had done.
One of the things you have to be careful with coniferous trees in tree grow tubes is they want to grow up quickly and then spread their branches. Just like this particular customer the trees are only about a half inch in caliber. The Trees need more time to strengthen their trunks. Usually it's good to be patient until that trunk starts to touch the inside of the tree tube. Our regular recommendation for conifers is to use a 24-36" tree grow tube. That way the root system gets established with light deer pressure they may get browsed but will grow faster than the deer can browse. Obviously this customers scenario is a bit different. You can use the taller tubes, but be aware not to take the tree tube off too soon.
