I recently started a daily hike at a Niches Land Trust property, Moyer-Gould Woods, a couple of miles from my home. It's a great 1.5 mile trail down an old gravel road, that takes you through a forest down to a nice river side hike.
There is short, black walnut lined gravel road that leads to the heart of the property. The Black Walnuts are 50+ years old and over time a couple have died and the land managers have gone back to replace them with seedlings. It was easy to tell that some of these trees were planted there a couple of years ago and animal browse has nearly decimated the trees. Last week, we spent time doing some corrective pruning and putting some Tree Pro Grow Tubes on the seedlings. Below you can see some of the trees in their newly installed tubes. We will follow up with some photos after a couple of week.
