You can turn almost any deer habitat,
no matter how marginal, into the kind that grows huge deer with record-breaking racks. All you have to do is grow the kinds
of plants that produce a healthy diet for the deer to eat.
A large part of a healthy diet
for quality deer comes from trees, with nuts and fruits being the most important. Trees
also provide necessary cover for deer. Unfortunately, most forests do not provide
the right kind of vegetation to maximize deer growth and health.
Merely planting the right
kinds of trees is not enough. The very deer you're trying to benefit (for
your ultimate benefit) will eat newly planted trees to the nub. Even if those
trees make it to the sapling stage, bucks will use them to rub velvet from their antlers, turning them into shredded sticks.
Therefore, the trees must be protected
until they reach a diameter of at least three inches. Your best bet -- and I'm inclined to say your only bet -- is a five-foot
tall Tree Pro or Miracle Tube. Not only will the trees survive the deer's lusty
appetite, they will grow faster and be healthier and more resistant to disease.
